UPDATED: Fire Causes Heavy Damage To Newtown Home

A house fire in Newtown Township drew firefighters from across Bucks County on Thursday afternoon.

Newtown Fire Rescue was dispatched at 1:36 p.m. to the unit block of Tall Oaks Drive after receiving a report of a blaze at the rear of the residence.

Crews arrived to find heavy flames visible from the roof. All occupants had safely evacuated the house prior to firefighters’ arrival, according to a statement from Newtown Fire Rescue.

Crews encountered difficulties battling the blaze due to the home’s location, which presented logistical challenges on property access and establishing a sufficient water supply for firefighters, the department said.

Firefighters from numerous fire companies were called to the scene and brought the fire under control at 3:38 p.m., officials said.

One firefighter suffered a leg injury during the response and was transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center in Middletown Township. No other injuries were reported, according to the department.

No cause of the fire was announced.

Crews remained on scene until 6:47 p.m. to perform overhaul operations, extinguish remaining hot spots, and pack equipment.

Newtown Fire Rescue crews returned to their stations, completing equipment servicing and restoring operational readiness for calls by 10 p.m.

Newtown Fire Rescue was assisted at the scene by the Newtown Emergency Medical Services, the Newtown Township Police Department, the Northampton Township Fire Department, the Upper Makefield Fire Company, the Langhorne-Middletown Fire Company, the Yardley-Makefield Fire Company, the Penndel Fire Company, the Middletown Township Department of Fire and Emergency Services, the New Hope Eagle Fire Company, the Lingohocken Fire Company, the Lower Southampton Fire Department, the Fairless Hills Fire Company, the Feasterville Fire Company, the William Penn Fire Company, the Southampton Fire Company, and the Bensalem Volunteer Fire Department.

While crews fought the fire, additional fire companies from across Bucks County relocated to backfill the stations that were on the scene.

Flames tore through a home in Newtown Township Thursday afternoon.

Newtown Fire-Rescue and additional companies responded to Tall Oaks Lane for the reports of a blaze around 1:30 p.m.

Flames were seen shooting through the roof of the large dwelling, and firefighters were evacuated from the structure due to the intensity of the fire, according to reports from the scene.

Crews were on the scene for several hours dealing with the fire.

Further details were not immediately available.

As crews battled the flames, Washington Crossing Road (Route 532) was closed from Linton Hill to Stoopville Road.
