Backyard chickens are a growing trend across the United States. In recent years, it hasn’t been uncommon to see a small chicken pen in the backyards of homes from West Bristol to Washington Crossing.

On Wednesday, the Bucks County Foodshed Alliance will be hosting a panel discussion on raising chickens in your backyard. The free event will take place at 7 p.m. George School’s Anderson Library conference room at the campus in Middletown/Newtown.

From the Bucks County Foodshed Alliance:

The panelists will share information from their personal experience of raising chickens. Learn from others’ mistakes and triumphs, from laying the foundation for your entry into chicken raising to maintaining the vitality and productivity of your established flock. Topics of discussion include zoning and regulations, peeps vs young adults, investment expectations and coop options.

Backyard chickens provide residents with a sustainable way to obtain dark orange-yolked eggs that are free of harmful chemicals.
