Democrats from Bucks and Montgomery counties have endorsed State Rep. Steve Santarsiero in his race for the Eighth District congressional seat.

The Bucks County vote came Saturday when Democrats gathered in Northampton to pick their candidates to endorse for the upcoming primary election. The Montgomery County vote came earlier last week.

“I am proud to be the Democratic Party’s endorsed candidate for Congress in Pennsylvania’s 8th Congressional District,” said Santarsiero.

“With the endorsement, Santarsiero’s name will be printed on the official Democratic Party sample ballots, or ‘golden rods,’ given to Democratic voters in each county. The overwhelming endorsement also reflects that Santarsiero will have the full force of the Democratic Party’s organization and infrastructure behind him,” a statement from Santarsiero spokesman Erich Goldman said.

The Lower Makefield resident worker previously worked as a teacher and lawyer said he believes he has proven himself as a “progressive” by taking a stand on women’s reproductive rights issues, working to keep good paying jobs in the state and working to make law to require  universal background checks for gun owners.

“I am ready to continue the fight for our shared Democratic values in Congress.”

Santarsiero’s Democratic primary opponent is Shaughnessy Naughton, an Upper Bucks County business woman and scientist.
