The price of the Philadelphia Inquirer and Philadelphia Daily News will increase at newsstands and area stores.

According to the Philadelphia Business Journal, the Monday through Saturday single-copy newsstand price of the Inquirer and Daily News will rise by $.50 to $1.50 on May 23. The price of the Sunday paper and home delivery will not increase.

The newspapers that serve Philadelphia and their suburbs last raised newsstand prices by $.25 in 2011, the Business Journal reported.

The two newspaper combined newsrooms last year and laid off reporters. The company that publishes the Inquirer and Daily News has worked to cut costs over the past decade.

The Inquirer and Daily News have seen single-copy sales shrink in recent years. Across the globe, many printed editions are seeing smaller readership and their websites are seeing an increase in viewers.

Coverage of Bucks County in the Inquirer appears to have also shrunk over the past year as the paper has cut back on reporters.
