Suspected DUI Crash

At approximately 2:22 a.m., police were dispatched to South Sycamore Street for a report of a one-vehicle traffic accident it was unknown if there were injuries but police were advised that the driver was slumped over the steering wheel.  An ambulance was also dispatched to the scene.  When police arrived they observed that the vehicle came to rest facing the parking lot of Chandler Hall after striking and damaging the fence.   As an officer checked on the driver’s condition he detected a heavy odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from her.  The driver was identified as a 23-year-old woman from Newtown.  The woman was asked to step from the vehicle and became argumentative and verbally abusive.  After a brief investigation the officer formed the opinion that the woman was impaired.  She was taken into custody and transported to St. Mary Medical Center in Middletown to have blood drawn. The blood will submitted to the lab for analysis and charges of DUI are pending the results. The vehicle sustained light damage and was towed from the scene since it was on private property as a result of a traffic accident.
