Police Log: Woman Pays Money To Scammers, Wellness Check Leads To Possible DUI & More

July 22

Lost Purse

A resident of Warminster came to police headquarters around 8:45 am to report that she lost her small purse while she was in Newtown on July 21st.  The woman had already cancelled credit cards and notified her bank of the loss.

DUI

At approximately 10 a.m., police were dispatched to the parking lot of the 7-11 on South Sycamore Street for a request to check the well-being of occupants of a vehicle.  The responding officer determined that additional investigation was needed and one of the occupants, 31 year-old Daniel Capoferri of Bareder Road in Jenkintown, was arrested for driving under the influence of a controlled substance.

July 25

Fraud

A resident of Newtown Township came to police headquarters around 9:50 a.m. to report fraudulent activity on his credit card account.  The victim told police that three purchases were made using his credit card number for a card that was in his possession.  The total of the unauthorized purchases was $763.  The victim contacted his credit card company and they will credit him the fraudulent purchases.

Scam

Shortly before 6:30 a.m., police received a call from a resident who was a victim of a scam.  She told police that she was on her computer last night and a message popped up advising her that her computer was infected with a “virus” and she needed to contact technical support.  The victim called the phone number that was provided in the message and the person who answered identified themselves as Microsoft technical support and remotely accessed her computer to fix the “virus.”  The resident provided a credit card number and paid $239.99 for the service.  After learning that it was a scam she notified her credit card company and police.
