Newtown Township
September 13
Theft
At approximately 2:50 p.m., police were dispatched to the Newtown Athletic Club to meet with a victim of a theft of an iPhone. The responding officer met with the caller who said that he had used an application to track the phone to a location in Middletown Township. Police went to the location and spoke with a juvenile and his father advising them of the situation. Shortly before 4:30 p.m. the rightful owner of the phone called police and said that his phone had been returned.
Fraud
A resident came into police headquarters shortly before 3:00 pm to report that he received a phone call with a person crying that identified himself as the resident’s grandson. Another person then took the phone telling the resident that his grandson had been arrested and the resident needed to purchase iTunes gift cards for a total of $3,000 then to return a call to provide the caller with the card numbers. The resident followed the directions, then he was told to repeat the process for an additional $6,000. When the victim went to the bank to withdraw funds, he told bank personnel the situation and the told him he was the victim of a scam. The victim was going to contact the store where he purchased the iTunes card to see if they could refund his money.
September 14
Fraud
Around 3 p.m., a resident came to police headquarters to report that he had been notified by Life Lock that someone had opened a credit card in his name and attempted to charge $800 to the account. He didn’t suffer any financial loss.
September 17
DUI
While on patrol on the Bypass an officer observed a motorist commit vehicle code violations. The officer stopped the motorist on Swamp Road just after 2 a.m. formed the opinion that the driver, 38-year-old Megan Festa of Liberty Drive in Newtown, was operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and incapable of safe driving. Festa was arrested and taken to St. Mary Medical Center in Middletown where she submitted to a blood draw. The blood will be submitted to lab for analysis and charges of DUI are pending the results.
September 19
Noise Complaint
Police were dispatched to the Newtown Athletic Club just after 12 a.m. for a complaint of loud music being played at the location. The responding officer was able to hear the music before he arrived at the club. The manager agreed to turn the volume down no additional complaints were received.
Public Intoxication
At 12:40 a.m., police received a call reporting a vehicle with the engine running in the parking lot of Society Place with an unresponsive female inside. The responding officer was able to rouse the occupant after several attempts. The woman was identified as, 45-year-old Jaci Rae Gabriel of Newtown Township. After a brief investigation the officer determined that she had consumed alcohol. She will receive a citation charging her with public intoxication.
