Volunteers will be collecting bicycles and sewing machines this Saturday.
The Newtown Rotary Club will be collecting the items at their Pedals for Progress event Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon in the parking lot across from the old St. Andrew Catholic Church on in Newtown Township.
Rotary member Paul Salvatore said at the Newtown Borough Council meeting earlier this week that the bicycles will be shipped to developing countries where they can be reused. The sewing machines will be used to help families in other countries make clothing and work for extra income.
So far, the group has about 70 bicycles already collected, Salvatore said.
