The weekend DUI checkpoint on the Newtown Bypass in Newtown Township ended with eight arrests.

The Bucks County District Attorney’s Office said the Saturday into Sunday checkpoint in the northbound lanes of the bypass near Sycamore Street led to seven drivers being charged with DUI, including one who had a small child in her vehicle. Two of the seven people charged have been accused of possessing marijuana, and three were charged with possessing drug paraphernalia.

Authorities said a 17-year-old passenger in one of the vehicles was charged with underage drinking and possession of a small amount of marijuana.

In addition, two drivers who made illegal U-turns over a median to avoid the checkpoint were cited and one driver showed signs of impairment but was not over the limit. They were allowed to arrange for a ride home.

The Bucks County DUI Task Force was manned by 28 officers from nine police departments and troopers from the Pennsylvania State Police
