Police Log: Several Fraud Cases, Drugs Found During Traffic Stop & More

February 2

Fraud

A Newtown Township resident responded to headquarters around 4:30 p.m. to report fraudulent purchases from their bank account and insurance policy. The investigation is ongoing at this time.

DUI

At approximately 9 p.m., police conducted a traffic stop on a Nissan Pathfinder operator for committing a vehicle code violation in the area of Durham Road and the Newtown Bypass. Upon contact with the operator, the officer detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage. The operator was unable to perform field sobriety tests satisfactorily and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Charges are pending blood evidence results.

February 3

DUI

At approximately 12:30 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop on a Mercedes-Benz 300 Series operator for committing a vehicle code violation in the area of the Newtown Bypass and Campus Drive. Upon contact with the operator, the officer detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage. The operator was unable to perform field sobriety tests satisfactorily and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Charges are pending blood evidence results.

February 5

Retail Theft

At approximately 12:45 p.m., police were dispatched to CVS Pharmacy in Wrightstown Township for the report of a retail theft. The total value of loss was $3,115, and the investigation is ongoing at this time.

February 6

Fraud

A Newtown Township resident contacted police around 1:30 p.m. to report fraud involving a Verizon account opened in their name. Verizon investigated, closed the account, and resolved the incident.

Fraud

A Newtown Township resident contacted police around 1:35 p.m. to report fraud. The resident explained that a pop-up message appeared on their laptop, and they called the phone number that was displayed on the screen and spoke with someone who claimed to be a Microsoft representative. After the representative convinced the resident that their computer was hacked, the resident granted them remote access to fix it and was instructed to purchase $2,000 in gift cards to pay for the service. The resident did not realize it was a scam until after he purchased the gift cards and gave the information to the scammer.

February 7

Fraud

A Newtown Township resident contacted police around 9:15 a.m. to report fraud involving Facebook Marketplace and PayPal. The investigation is ongoing at this time.

A Newtown Township resident contacted police around 1:30 p.m. to report fraud involving a Verizon account opened in their name. Verizon investigated, closed the account, and resolved the incident.

February 8

Theft From Vehicle

Police were dispatched to a Pheasant Run parking lot at approximately 8:30 a.m. for the report of a theft from vehicle. The investigation is ongoing at this time.

Fraud

A Newtown Township resident contacted police at approximately 2 p.m. to report fraudulent access to their bank account. The bank is investigating the incident.

A Newtown Township resident contacted police at approximately 2:45 p.m. to report fraudulent access to their bank account. The bank is investigating the incident.

February 9

Retail Theft

At approximately 9 p.m., police were dispatched to the Rally House located on South Eagle Drive for the report of a retail theft. The investigation is ongoing at this time.

Arrest

At approximately 11:30 p.m., police conducted a traffic stop on a Chevy pick-up truck operator for committing a vehicle code violation in the area of the Newtown Bypass and South Sycamore Street. As a result of the investigation, the operator was taken into custody on an active arrest warrant from the Bucks County Sheriff’s Department, and suspected narcotics and drug paraphernalia were discovered and seized as evidence. Charges are pending evidence result
