Hundreds of people helped celebrate George Washington’s 291st birthday Sunday during fun-filled festivities.

Cheers erupted as the nation’s first president and famed general used his saber to slice his birthday cake that was provided by The Caketeria in Newtown Borough.

Washington, portrayed by John Godzieba, was surrounded by reenactors at the big bash at Washington Crossing Historic Park, which sits in Upper Makefield and Solebury townships.

Area kids made cards for Washington to celebrate his birthday and presidents’ day weekend.

Attendees were provided with fresh cupcakes by the nonprofit Friends of Washington Crossing Park to mark the occasion.
