Following a deadly shooting at a school in Tennessee, Newtown Township police announced Monday they will step up patrols at local schools.
“The Newtown Township Police Department has assigned enhanced patrol coverage in and around all school facilities in Newtown and Wrightstown townships for the remainder of the week,” the department posted on social media.
“‘If you see something or hear something, say something!’ The protection of our children is everyone’s responsibility,” authorities said while sending their condolences to the shooting victims.
The message from township police came after a shooter killed three children and three adults at The Covenant School, a private Presbyterian school in Nashville.
Responding officers shot and killed the shooter, who was said by authorities to be a former student at the religious school.
According to Don Aaron, a spokesman for the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, the attacker was carrying a handgun and as many as two semi-automatic rifles.
