Various roads in Newtown Township should be in better shape soon after the board of supervisors awarded a $973,436 contract recently for the 2023 road repaving program.

Harris Blacktopping, which also got the bid last year, was awarded this year’s bid to repave all or parts of 10 township roads. Township officials said they believe the company did a good job last year, and also in other years it has received the contract for the road improvement program.

Township Manager Micah Lewis said the township had budgeted for this year’s program $530,000 from its share of the state tax on gasoline and other liquid fuels, $300,000 from the general fund and $167,000 from Newtown Township’s $2 million allotment from the American Rescue Plan Act.

Awarded to Harris Blacktopping was a $755,049 base bid for work on Lower Dolington Road, Redwood Lane, Ebony Court, Tamarack Court, Sequoia Drive and Canterberry Court.

Also awarded were four alternate bids for additional work: $72,016 for a portion of Eagle Road; $13,088 for Lafayette Street; $32,836 for Valley Court and $100,446 for Rosefield Drive.
