Walkers from Carry The Load were welcomed to Newtown Borough Wednesday evening with fanfare and some cheers.
The group was part of the nonprofit’s 20,000-mile endeavor to travel across America on foot before Memorial Day was escorted through the borough by police.
The team that came the Newtown area was traveling an East Coast route that will end on Memorial Day in Dallas.
The Carry The Load crew was welcomed with fanfare in Upper Makefield, Yardley Borough, Middletown Township, and Langhorne Borough before heading into Philadelphia.
Carry The Load organizes several legs of their trip.
The group aims to raise awareness and pay tribute to military members and emergency responders who have passed away.
The nonprofit has raised more than $38 million since 2011.
