Bucks County has recently welcomed a new face to lead its Department of Veterans Affairs.

Stepping into the role with a determination to serve those who have served, Matthew Allen, a current U.S. Navy reservist, assumed the position in April.

Allen brings a wealth of experience from both his military background and his decade-long tenure as a deputy in the Bucks County Sheriff’s Office.

With a deep-rooted connection to the community as a native of Bucks County, Allen wasted no time immersing himself in his responsibilities. His primary objective? To bridge the gap between underserved veterans and the crucial services they require, county officials said.

Eager to make a difference, Allen represented the county while promoting his office’s mission at various county and community events.

“The one thing that I want veterans to know is that we’re here to help them,” Allen stated. “We’re here for whatever they need, even if it’s just a person to talk to. Everyone in this office cares and wants to help the veterans out as much as they can.”

As the newly appointed director of Veterans Affairs, Allen shoulders the responsibility of overseeing a dedicated team consisting of three full-time employees and one part-time employee.

Allen replaces previous director Tim Wynn, who started last year. The department was led for 23 years by Dan Fraley, who retired in October 2021.

Allen was selected for the position with a starting salary of $85,000.

The Bucks County Department of Veterans Affairs operates within the Bucks County Division of Human Service.
