Police Log: Catalytic Converter Stolen, Facebook Hack Leads To Fraud Attempt & More

June 30

Fraud

A Newtown Township resident responded to headquarters around 8:30 a.m. to report a fraud. The resident explained that she received emails about a cell phone purchase but assumed they were spam and deleted them. A package was then delivered to her address, and an unknown male approached her, stating the box contained a cell phone that was delivered in error and that he would be taking it back. The resident later learned that a cell phone account was fraudulently opened in her name. The resident was able to cancel the account and notified her bank and the credit bureaus about the unusual activity.

July 3

Fraud

At approximately 3 p.m., police were contacted in regards to a potential fraud that occurred at a bank in Newtown, and the investigation is ongoing at this time.

Theft From Vehicle

At approximately 4 p.m., a Newtown Township resident contacted police to report a theft. The resident explained that their catalytic converter was stolen in March.

July 5

Attempted Fraud

A Newtown Township resident contacted police around 9:15 am to report a fraud. The resident explained that someone hacked into her Facebook, and she received emails about attempts to access some of her other accounts. The resident notified her bank before any suspicious financial activity took place, and there was no monetary loss.
