PennDOT said repaving operations are scheduled to continue this week on the Newtown Bypass.

Starting this week and running through Friday, August 11, motorists should expect weeknight alternating lane closures from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning along the Newtown Bypass.

The closures will take place in both directions on the Newtown Bypass between Durham Road and Newtown Gate Drive/Summit Trace Road in Newtown Township.

The work involves milling the existing roadway surfaces and repaving the state highways with fresh asphalt.

PennDOT officials said the new pavement will seal the roadways, providing motorists with a smoother ride.

Drivers are advised to anticipate slowdowns in these areas and allow extra travel time.

All scheduled work is dependent on weather conditions.

Repaving and repair work on the Newtown Bypass began in June.

The repaving operations on the Newtown Bypass as part of a broader effort to repair and repave over 200 miles of state highway across the Philadelphia region. The regional repaving operations are costing $134 million, according to PennDOT.
