Newtown Borough is advancing plans to hire a manager to manage its municipal operations.
The borough recently enlisted the Meyner Center at Lafayette College to aid in the search for a borough manager.
The decision to pick the Meyner Center was influenced by the center’s previous experience in assisting municipalities with similar hires, officials said.
Officials stated that the center will guide the borough in detailing the manager’s role and ensuring the right candidate is chosen.
In August, the Newtown Borough Council greenlit the manager position, which is a new role for the municipality.
Once hired, the borough manager will handle the daily tasks for the community of 2,200 residents.
At present, daily municipal duties are performed by council members, the borough secretary, and the treasurer.
Council President Tara Grunde-McLaughlin said that the Meyner Center’s consultant, who previously held a borough manager position, will commence work with Newtown Borough on November 1.
Grunde-McLaughlin said the new manager would be in place early in the new year, and new council members who could be elected in November would be involved.
In September, the council employed the services of Gilbert, Wilson and Hunter LLP for bookkeeping. The firm will succeed the departing Treasurer Patricia Ours.
