Bucks County Community College is set to host a forum aimed at shedding light on the global crisis of human trafficking.
The community college has invited the local community and online participants to join in the discussion.
The event scheduled for 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 7 will feature Allegra Cressman, director of programming at Worthwhile Wear, who will share insights on the nonprofit’s efforts to combat modern-day slavery.
Human trafficking affects an estimated 27.6 million people worldwide, according to the U.S. Department of State. Victims are often coerced into labor or commercial sex, stripped of their dignity and freedom.
The forum seeks to raise awareness of this hidden crisis, often unnoticed by the general public, according to organizers.
Cressman, at the helm of Worthwhile Wear’s programming, brings a wealth of experience to her role, having previously led Family Promise of the Main Line as executive director and served as the housing program director at Keystone Opportunity Center for 19 years. Her expertise in housing, employment, and outreach programs makes her a key voice in the fight against trafficking.
Worthwhile Wear operates with a mission to end human trafficking by providing essential services to survivors, including counseling, education, and vocational training. Additionally, the nonprofit runs thrift stores in Plumsteadville and Collegeville, which not only support its funding needs but also offer employment to women recovering from trafficking.
The event will take place in the Gallagher Room of the Rollins Center building at 275 Swamp Road in Newtown Township.
For those unable to attend in person, the community college will be live streaming. Interested participants are encouraged to register in advance at https://bit.ly/BCCC-EndSlavery.
