The Newtown Borough Police Department had a busy February.

Police Chief James Sabath said the department responded to 161 calls for service during the month.

The incidents included seven crashes and an altercation at the CVS in the borough.

Sabath reported that none of the traffic crashes resulted in injuries. However, one incident led to the arrest of a 35-year-old man from Yardley for DUI at the intersection of State and Washington streets.

Tensions flared at the Newtown CVS where a 68-year-old man from Huntington Valley suffered a broken wrist after an altercation with a 66-year-old Newtown resident. The dispute that escalated into physical violence was reportedly over a dog, Sabath said.

Additionally, the chief noted an ordinance violation involving a trash truck operating earlier than permitted. An officer arrived in time and met with the truck crew.
