The Pennsylvania State Police announced an increase in patrols and enforcement efforts in Bucks County over the Easter holiday weekend.
Starting early Friday and lasting until 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, troopers will intensify patrols and focus on curbing aggressive and impaired driving across the state.
Troopers said they will be working to notice and cite motorists engaged in texting while driving, using devices that impair hearing, and exhibiting careless or reckless driving behaviors.
In an effort to combat impaired driving, the operation will also include Selective Traffic Enforcement Against Drunk Drivers and the involvement of Drug Recognition Expert troopers. These specialized troopers will focus on identifying and arresting individuals driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, state police said.
The enforcement surge is part of the Pennsylvania Aggressive Driving Enforcement and Education Program, which targets behaviors such as speeding, neglecting seat belt and child seat belt laws, and other forms of aggressive driving.
The initiative is designed to enhance the safety of all road users and reduce the risks posed by dangerous driving practices, troopers said.
Looking at the 2023 Easter Holiday Traffic Enforcement Period, officials highlighted the results from Troop M, which encompasses Lehigh, Northampton, and Bucks counties. During last year’s enforcement period, troopers investigated 21 crashes and made 23 arrests for DUI.
Authorities took the opportunity to remind the public of the severe consequences of fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement. Such offenses can result in seven years of jail time, fines up to $15,000, and restitution, underscoring the serious nature of these violations.
