A report of a brush fire late Wednesday night took a grim turn when authorities discovered human remains inside a burning vehicle. And now, police are seeking information from the public.

Lower Makefield Township police and the Yardley-Makefield Fire Department were dispatched to St. Ignatius Cemetery next to Macclesfield Park on River Road around 10:45 p.m.

Upon arrival, they quickly determined that the fire was not in the brush but was a vehicle located in the rear of the cemetery.

The fire department managed to extinguish the vehicle fire and discovered human remains in the driver’s seat, police said.

The Bucks County Coroner’s Office was called to the scene to remove the body and transport it for further examination and autopsy.

Due to the condition of the body, immediate identification was not possible and investigators were unable to determine a cause or manner of death at the scene, police said.

“Positive identification will likely rely on DNA and/or dental records,” police said in a statement.

The Lower Makefield Township Police Department is seeking information related to the death and encouraged anyone with knowledge to call detectives at 215-493-4055.
