Construction is underway for the new Wawa convenience store and gas station along the Newtown Bypass.
Heavy machinery rolled onto the 4.95-acre site at the corner of Newtown Bypass and Lower Silver Lake Road in Newtown Township late last week.
In recent days, crews have since cleared the area of brush and trees and are preparing the ground for the new development.
The store will be 5,585 square feet and feature six fuel pumps.
Wawa has committed to installing solar panels on the gas pump canopy, Supervisor John Mack said earlier this year.
The project is a result of a 2023 settlement between the Newtown Township Board of Supervisors and Wawa, which followed a legal battle over the site’s development.
The development has been a contentious issue in the community for years, sparking debates over traffic, environmental impact, and local business.
