The Lurgan Road bridge over a branch of Pidcock Creek in Upper Makefield Township closed on Monday and will remain off-limits to traffic until late November, PennDOT announced.
The closure impacts the stretch of Lurgan Road between Eagle Road and Street Road as crews work on replacing the aging structure.
Drivers are advised to detour using River Road (Route 32), Windy Bush Road (Route 232), and Street Road.
Local access will be maintained near the construction zone.
Due to the closure, PennDOT warns of possible backups and delays in the area.
The current bridge was constructed in 1910 and spanning 16 feet long and 23 feet wide. It features a single-span concrete encased steel I-beam design.
The old bridge will be replaced with a more modern single-span concrete box culvert, PennDOT said.
The old bridge supports an average of 971 vehicles per day, according to state data.
This bridge is one of seven being rehabilitated or replaced by PennDOT in Bucks and Montgomery counties as part of a $7.987 million program funded entirely by state money.
Loftus Construction, Inc., of Cinnaminson, New Jersey, serves as the general contractor for the project.
