Firefighters averted a potential tragedy last week as crews contained a blaze on Laurel Circle in Newtown Township without any injuries.

At 12:02 p.m. last Wednesday, a juvenile called 9-1-1 to report smoke and flames in a second-floor bedroom while his brother and grandmother were inside the house, officials said.

Crews arrived to find the two juveniles safely outside and smoke coming from the home, Newtown Fire Rescue Deputy Chief Nicholas Weaver said.

The grandmother was assisted out of the home by firefighters and police, Weaver said.

The three residents were evaluated on the scene by the Newtown Ambulance Squad and suffered no injuries in the fire, Weaver said.

Upon entry, firefighters encountered a fire in the bedroom, Weaver said.

The fire was controlled using a pressurized water extinguisher, with the blaze declared under control by 12:16 p.m., Weaver said.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation as of late last week.

In addition to Newtown Fire Rescue, the Upper Makefield Fire Company, Northampton Township Fire Department, Yardley-Makefield Fire Company, Lingohocken Fire Company, Penndel Fire Company, Langhorne-Middletown Fire Company, and Middletown Township Department of Fire and Emergency Services assisted.
