A fire that damaged an Upper Makefield Township home on Friday, August 30, was caused by an electrical issue.

The blaze was reported around 9 a.m. at a home near the intersection of Woodhill and Creamery roads. It destroyed a hot tub and damaged the surrounding deck and residence.

Upper Makefield Township Fire Marshal John Kernan said on Friday that electrical arcing and heat transfer to adjacent combustibles was compounded by rodent nesting fuel and let the flames spread.

The fire was deemed accidental, the fire marshal said.

The flames were under control within about 15 minutes of crews arriving, said Upper Makefield Fire Company Chief Tim Brewer.

The homeowner was present at the time and noticed smoke coming from the rear of the house before calling 9-1-1, Brewer said.

No injuries were reported due to the blaze.
