September 27

Drug Arrest

At approximately 3:40 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop on a U-Haul box truck for committing a vehicle code violation in the area of Sycamore Street and Silo Drive. Upon contact with the operator, police observed narcotics and paraphernalia which were seized as evidence. Charges are pending the results of lab testing.

DUI

At 4:21 a.m., police were directed to the area of Durham Road and Municipal Drive for the report of a vehicle with the four-way flashers activated, and it appeared that the driver was slumped over the wheel. Upon contact with the vehicle, several attempts were made to awaken the driver. When the driver was finally awoken, officers detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from the person, as well as incoherent, slurred speech. The driver was evaluated by medics and upon refusal of treatment, field sobriety tests were conducted. The driver, who was unable to satisfactorily perform the tests, was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Charges are pending blood evidence results.

Theft

At 8:05 a.m., police were dispatched to a Newtown Township residence for the report of a theft. The victim had ordered an iPhone which was delivered via FedEx, but when the victim returned home from work, the iPhone had been stolen. An hour later, at approximately 9:17 AM, police were contacted by another Newtown Township resident for a similar report of an iPhone being delivered by FedEx, but being stolen before it could be retrieved by the victim. The police are investigating these incidents.

September 28

Counterfeit Currency

At approximately 12:45 p.m., police were dispatched to a Newtown Township business for the report of counterfeit cash being passed. The employee reported that a male and female came into the store, at separate times, requesting $100 be loaded onto a cash app. Both times the employee was able to be distracted while completing the transaction, before realizing the $100 bills were counterfeit. The incident is under investigation.

September 29

Truck Enforcement

The Newtown-Makefield Truck Enforcement Unit conducted a commercial vehicle safety detail in the area of the Newtown Bypass and Lindenhurst Road. The unit is made up of officers from this department, the Newtown Borough Police Department, and the Upper Makefield Township Police Department. During the detail, 11 trucks were stopped and inspected, resulting in 4 trucks being placed out of service, and 8 citations and 4 warnings were issued.

Theft From Vehicle

At 3:18 p.m., police were called to a Newtown Township residence for the report of a theft of an instrument from a vehicle. Police continually remind everyone to lock their doors and remove or hide their valuables.

Theft

At 5:36 p.m., police were dispatched to the Council Rock High School North for the report of a stolen bicycle. The victim reported that while playing on the fields, he was informed that someone had stolen his bike. On September 30, at 1:36 PM police were dispatched to the Newtown Middle School for the report of a found bicycle. Police discovered that it was the same one reported missing the day before, and the bicycle was reunited with its owner.

October 2

DUI

At approximately 12:12 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop on a Toyota Camry for committing a vehicle code violation in the area of the Newtown Bypass and Newtown Gate Drive. Upon contact with the operator, police observed the driver to have slurred speech and constricted pupils. The operator was unable to perform field sobriety tests satisfactorily and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Charges are pending blood evidence results.

Drug Arrest

At 3:38 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop on a Buick Rainer for committing a vehicle code violation in the area of the Newtown Bypass and Summit Trace Road. As a result of the investigation, suspected narcotics and drug paraphernalia were discovered and seized as evidence. The operator was taken into custody and processed without incident, and charges are pending evidence results.
