For the second time, Republican incumbent Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick has held off a challenge from Democrat Ashley Ehasz in the First Congressional District.

Fitzpatrick, a four-term member of Congress from Middletown Township, was projected to defeat Ehasz, a military veteran from Bensalem Township.

Fitzpatrick entered the final weeks of the race with millions of dollars in his campaign accounts and polling that showed him ahead of Ehasz.

Ehasz previously lost to Fitzpatrick by nearly 10 percentage points in the 2022 election.

Ehasz did see more national Democratic support than in 2022, but that support was not enough to get her to beat Fitzpatrick, whose late brother previously served as the congressman for the district.

Ehasz staked her campaign on protecting abortion rights and opposing former President Donald Trump, who endorsed Fitzpatrick in 2020.

Fitzpatrick, who has served since 2016, positions himself as a moderate Republican.

The congressman has broken with his party at times, which has angered some conservative members of his party.

Fitzpatrick voted against the impeachment of former President Donald Trump and condemned the January 6 attack on the Capitol.

Last year, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee put Fitzpatrick on a list of candidates they would work to defeat in 2024.

The First Congressional District, a key battleground that covers all of Bucks County and part of Montgomery County, is considered a bellwether district. President Joe Biden won the district in the 2020 presidential election.
