Under the rotunda of the U.S. Capitol, President Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th president on Monday afternoon.
“The golden age of America begins right now,” Trump said. “From this moment on, America’s decline is over. We will lead it to new heights of victory and success. There is no dream we cannot achieve. We will not be broken. We will not fail.”
“I return to the presidency confident and optimistic that we are at the start of a thrilling new era of national success. A tide of change is sweeping the country,” he stated during his half-hour inaugural address.
Trump said he would sign numerous executive orders as he carries out his vision for the nation, including related to drilling for oil, imposing tariffs, and removing criminals who are not citizens.
“The American dream will soon be thriving as never before,” Trump told the crowd. “We will forge a society that is fair and merit based.”
U.S. Sen. John Fetterman, a Democrat representing Pennsylvania, gained attention for wearing his signature shorts and sweatshirt to the inauguration.

Trump was accompanied by his wife Melania, his children, and new Vice President JD Vance and his family. A number of congressional leaders, billionaire tech businessmen, and the new president’s cabinet nominees joined him on the stage.
Outgoing President Joe Biden, First Lady Jill Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, and former presidents and vice presidents watched as the new administration was sworn in.
The inauguration was moved indoors from its usual outdoor perch due to extremely cold weather, according to the bipartisan inaugural committee. The last indoor inauguration was 40 years ago for President Ronald Reagan.
At 78 years old, Trump has become the oldest American to ever become president and follows Biden, 82, the oldest person to hold the office. Vance, 40, is the third youngest vice president in history. Trump also becomes the first convicted felon to take the office, but Trump said his past recent trouble were caused because of his politics.
