Starting in the 2025-2026 academic year, the Council Rock School District will transition to a full-day kindergarten program, district officials announced Tuesday.

The move comes after the Council Rock School Board approved the program in June 2024. The half-day kindergarten program will be eliminated.

In preparation for the transition, Council Rock teachers and administrators have visited neighboring districts that already offer full-day programs. The visits have helped shape a curriculum that addresses the needs of kindergarten-aged children, officials said in a statement.

The district has formed a stakeholder group, which includes current and prospective parents, teachers, administrators, and school board members, to make sure program meets community expectations and educational standards, officials said.

Registration for the inaugural class of full-day kindergarten students is now open, with the district encouraging parents to sign up early. Parents interested in enrolling their children can visit the online registration portal: https://crsdorg.finalsite.com/departments/central-registration/student-registration.

The school board moved to create a full-day kindergarten program after months of community consultations and planning. Parents were surveyed to see if they were interested.
