Four Bucks County nonprofits are joining forces to host the third annual Coldest Night of the Year walk to raise awareness and funds for families experiencing homelessness.

The February 22 event is organized by the Bucks County Housing Group, Bucks County Opportunity Council, Family Service Association of Bucks County, and the YWCA of Bucks County. It will feature 2K and 5K walks through Doylestown Borough.

“This special event and evening is more than just a walk. It’s a movement of compassion, resilience and action,” said Kristen Chapin, a representative for the event and associate director for the YMCA of Bucks County, during a presentation at the Bucks County Commissioners meeting last week.

The walk will begin at 4:45 p.m. at the Justice Center and conclude at the James Lorah Auditorium.

Participants can choose between a 2K or 5K route, with warm drinks and encouragement provided along the way.

“Every step that you take helps to raise awareness for individuals experiencing crisis,” Chapin said. “Your involvement ensures that essential programs continue, provide shelter, support and hope for a brighter future.”

The four participating nonprofits work together to provide emergency housing assistance, support, case management, food, and various other services to vulnerable members of the Bucks County community.

While registration for the walk is free, participants are encouraged to fundraise. Those who raise money can earn a toque as a symbol of their commitment to the cause.

“Every dollar raised helps provide shelter, food, support and stability for families facing hardship,” Chapin explained.

The event will kick off with a performance by Drummers with Attitude from Harry S. Truman High School and be followed by a moment of silence to remember those lost to homelessness in Bucks County.

After the walk, participants will gather at the James Lorah Auditorium on Main Street in Doylestown Township for a meal to celebrate their collective impact.

The Coldest Night of the Year walk comes at a time when homelessness remains a pressing issue in the county.

For those unable to participate in person, virtual participation options are available.

The organizers are also seeking volunteers to help with various aspects of the event, including serving food and directing walkers along the route.

Interested individuals can register, join as an individual or create a team, and set fundraising goals by visiting the event’s website.
