The new Wawa convenience store and gas station in Newtown Township is set to open its doors to customers next Thursday, July 31, a company spokesperson confirmed Friday.

The 5,585-square-foot Wawa at the corner of Newtown Bypass and Lower Silver Lake Road will include six fuel pumps.

Doors will open at 8 a.m. next Thursday. The first 100 customers will receive free T-shirts while supplies last, and all customers can enjoy free hot coffee of any size from opening day through Sunday, Aug. 3.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on opening day. It will be followed by a “Hoagies for Heroes” hoagie building competition between local police and fire departments, with $1,000 to be donated to each agency’s charity of choice.

The location is notable for being the first Wawa in Pennsylvania to incorporate solar panels into its design.

The panels are on the fuel canopy and are projected to supply up to 20 percent of the store’s energy needs, the company said.

Wawa currently has 141 stores with solar panels, with 130 in New Jersey and 10 in Maryland.

“We’re excited to open our newest store in Bucks County in Newtown, PA to provide friends and neighbors with an extensive offer of fresh food, beverage, convenience, fuel and EV services,” said Dave Simonetti, senior director of store operations for Wawa. “We look forward to continuing to expand our unique brand of fresh food, beverages and convenience here and to further our commitment to our communities with enhancements to our store design and our community partnerships.”

The development of the new Wawa follows a 2023 settlement between the Newtown Township Board of Supervisors and Wawa. It resolved a legal dispute over the site.
