The Newtown Township Board of Supervisors honored Fire Chief Glenn Forsyth with a proclamation Wednesday to recognize his 50 years of service.

Supervisor Chairperson Elen Snyder read the proclamation, which highlighted Forsyth’s “courage, selflessness, and dedication.”

Forsyth began his career as a volunteer firefighter with the Newtown Fire Association. He rose through the ranks to become fire chief of Newtown Township’s career emergency services department, which includes Newtown Fire Rescue.

Forsyth has been a township employee for 42 years, spending 28 of those years with the police department before transitioning to Newtown Fire Rescue.

“First off, I would like to thank the board for this acknowledgement,” Forsyth said during the ceremony. “But most of all, I’d like to thank the people back here that have made my 50 years possible.”

Forsyth said his experience in law enforcement and fire services gives him a unique perspective on public safety operations.

“It’s been a great time,” he said. “Most of it has been great. I wish I could say I’m looking forward to another 50, but I am not.”

Forsyth’s wife, Kimberly, and children Morgan, Cameron, and Nicholas attended the recognition.

In other business, the supervisors were briefed that the township is working with Newtown Borough on the fire services contract renewal.
