Council Rock School District leaders addressed community concerns last month on the incident involving AI-generated images of students that circulated last spring.
While the matter remains under investigation, district leaders stressed their commitment to student well-being and transparency within the bounds of the law.
The district made headlines after a Newtown Middle School student was charged.
“First and most important, we share the deep concern of Council Rock parents about the well-being of the students affected,” Council Rock School Board President Edward Tate said, reading a prepared statement on behalf of the district.
Tate explained that while the district acted quickly to alert law enforcement, strict federal and state privacy laws limited what could be shared publicly. He stated that the rules were designed to protect students, even when they prevent the district from releasing details that families and community members may want.
According to Tate, staff members reported the incident to law enforcement within minutes of receiving credible information.
The school district, according to Tate, were not believed to have originated on school grounds or during school hours, which placed the issue primarily under law enforcement’s jurisdiction.
The district worked closely with authorities to ensure a coordinated response.
“We have found a reasonable path that should properly serve the best interests of all students involved,” Tate said.
The school board president said that affected students and families were receiving support directly from the district.
Superintendent Dr. Andrew Sanko used his report to underscore how issues of digital safety now intersect with education in unprecedented ways. He warned about the dangers students face from “technology, social media, and AI.”
To prepare families, Sanko announced there will be new district-led parent training sessions as well as partnerships with agencies including the FBI, Secret Service, and Bucks County District Attorney’s Office.
