A local takeout spot for fresh seafood, Bobby Chez Gourmet To Go, has permanently closed its location at the Village at Newtown shopping center
The to-go store on Eagle Road, which was known for its signature lump crab cakes, ceased operations on Oct. 31.
The shop has been open since 2023.
“After serving our wonderful community for the past few years, we are very sad to announce that Bobby Chez Gourmet To Go will be closing its doors,” the business stated in an announcement made prior to the closure.
Owners Keith and Andrea Schultz, who are local residents, ran the local outpost of the South Jersey-based seafood business.
In a message to patrons, the couple expressed their sadness and gratitude.
“It’s with a very heavy heart that we announce this, but we wanted to thank all of all loyal customers for your continued support,” the Schultzes wrote on an Instagram post. “We have made such amazing friends and memories over these last 2 1/2 years. We are filled with gratitude for every visit and every conversation shared and we truly loved every minute of it.”
The Newtown Township location was one of three Bobby Chez locations that are part of the brand.
Bobby Sliwowski, better known as Bobby Chez, and his mother ran a popular French restaurant, Chez Robert, in Westmont, New Jersey for 20 years. In 1997, the Bobby Chez Famous Crab Cakes store opened in Voorhees, New Jersey.
