Tyler State Park will be closed to the public this Wednesday, Dec. 3, for its annual shotgun deer hunt.

The one-day regulated hunt targets both antlered and antlerless deer at the popular state park in Newtown and Northampton townships.

Rangers from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) close the park to all visitors during the event.

The DCNR stated the hunt is being held “in an effort to increase the ecological diversity of the park,” according to a release.

Officials apologized for the “temporary inconvenience” the closure will cause to visitors.

Residents near the park should be aware that law enforcement will have an increased presence around the area Wednesday, according to the Newtown Township police.

While the park closes for the shotgun hunt, it remains open during the winter archery hunting season.
