The Newtown Borough Police Department responded to 186 calls for service during November, according to Police Chief James Sabath.

During a Newtown Borough Council meeting in December, Sabath detailed the department’s activity.

The department assisted the Lower Makefield Township Police Department in the apprehension of a 52-year-old man. The man, who had reportedly threatened to kill his family, was located and arrested by borough officers on State Street before being turned over to township authorities

The department also concluded an aggressive driving enforcement program in November. The initiative resulted in 55 citations for various offenses, including failure to stop at red lights, speeding, aggressive driving, and related traffic violations.

Sabath reported that officers investigated four vehicle crashes during the month. None involved serious injuries.

A 26-year-old man from Yardley was arrested for public drunkenness. The arrest happened early one morning after the man was found yelling and screaming, the chief said.

Sabath said the department also managed several events within the borough throughout the month.

Looking ahead, Sabath told the council that the department has remained busy through December.

A full summary of the December police activity is expected to be presented during the council’s January meeting.
