The Newtown Athletic Club is preparing to host the Beach Boys for a private, poolside performance this spring, owner Jim Worthington announced.

The legendary American rock group is scheduled to perform Wednesday, May 27, at the club in Newtown Township.

The event is billed as a “thank you” to the club’s clientele and will be open exclusively to members aged 21 and above.

“We are blessed to have the most amazing summer band in the history of rock music, the unbelievable, best-selling American group of all time — the fabulous Beach Boys,” Worthington said in a video announcement posted to Facebook.

The concert is free for members, and tickets are required for entry.

Tickets are scheduled to be released starting Monday via the Newtown Athletic Club app.

Worthington, a lifelong fan of the band, said the booking was made possible through his personal friendship with lead singer Mike Love. He said in a video Monday that he convinced the group to add the Bucks County stop to their current tour, which includes a performance for the nation’s birthday in Washington D.C.

Worthington framed the upcoming show as a kickoff for “America 250” celebrations in the county.

“What a better way to start off America 250 with what is regarded as one of the greatest bands of all time,” he said.

The outdoor event is scheduled to take place rain or shine.

Worthington was clear that the concert is strictly for members and will not be open to the general public.
