Fireworks will return to the skies over the Delaware River this summer as Washington Crossing Historic Park hosts an Independence Day celebration to mark the nation’s 250th anniversary, park officials confirmed.

The free-to-the-public event is slated for Saturday, July 4, from 4 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

The festivities will include Revolutionary War encampments, traditional craft demonstrations, dramatic readings of the Declaration of Independence, live music along the Delaware River, and interactive educational experiences and family activities.

The event will welcome visitors and residents to commemorate the U.S. Semiquincentennial.

To help fund the festivities, the Friends of Washington Crossing Park has launched a public fundraising campaign working to raise $75,000.

The Gene and Marlene Epstein Foundation has pledged to match all public donations dollar-for-dollar up to $10,000 through June 4.

“I think of all the years that we have lived here in Bucks County and how Washington Crossing Historic Park has been instrumental in bringing individuals and communities together,” said Gene Epstein, a local entrepreneur and philanthropist. “It’s our time to support this incredible resource. We encourage everyone to give what they can and are proud to match donations dollar for dollar, up to $10,000.”

The Friends of Washington Crossing Park is working with organizations including Bucks250PA, America250PA, and America250 to host events throughout 2026 to link visitors with the history of the nation’s founding and Gen. George Washington’s historic river crossing.

“As we prepare for the 250th anniversary, we are creating a space for our community to come together and celebrate in a truly meaningful way,” said Jennifer Martin, executive director of the Friends of Washington Crossing Park. “This moment is an opportunity to honor the legacy of the Crossing while bringing people together, inspiring the next generation, and recognizing the generous support of donors and partners who help make this work possible.”

Early corporate funding for the celebration has been provided by “Colonel Level” supporters, including Crown Holdings and The First National Bank and Trust Company of Newtown.

Officials noted that continued community support remains essential as planning moves forward. Monetary contributions can be made online at washingtoncrossingpark.org/donate.
