Lower Bucks County residents have one final chance this year to clear out household chemicals and hazardous materials from their garages, sheds, and basements.

The Bucks County Household Hazardous Waste Program will host its final Lower Bucks collection event of the season from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, at Bensalem High School at 4319 Hulmeville Road.
The free drive-thru event allows residents to safely discard items prohibited from standard trash collection. Registration is not required.
Households may drop off up to 25 gallons or 220 pounds of hazardous materials. Acceptable items include: oil-based paints and paint products; pesticides and weed killers; automotive products, including gasoline, motor oil, and antifreeze; lead-acid batteries (car, marine, motorcycle, and truck) along with rechargeable, lithium, and button-type household batteries; pool chemicals, degreasers, and cleaning solvents; mercury thermostats and fluorescent tubes; fire extinguishers and mini-propane tanks (two pounds or less).

County officials said that several items will not be accepted, including TVs, electronics, household appliances, tires, asbestos, medical waste, explosives, ammunition, smoke detectors, radioactive waste, and large gas cylinders.
Water-based latex paint and standard alkaline batteries are also excluded. They can be safely disposed of in regular household trash.

The collection is strictly for residential household waste. No materials from businesses, industries, or institutions will be accepted.
The event is open to residents of Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties.
The collection is sponsored by the Bucks County Commissioners and the Bucks County Planning Commission.
