Staten Island Man Wanted For Newtown Twp. Counterfeit Money Scheme

Police are seeking the suspect.

Local police are seeking a Staten Island, New York, man accused of passing counterfeit currency at businesses in the area.

Officers with the Newtown Township Police Department responded late Tuesday afternoon, June 23, to the Newtown Shopping Center after receiving reports that a man was using fake $100 and $20 bills.

An investigation determined that several retail businesses had accepted the counterfeit money, police said.

Detectives identified the suspect as 29-year-old Shane Degoat, and an arrest warrant has been obtained for his custody.

Degoat is wanted on charges of forgery, theft by deception, and receiving stolen property.
