The Newtown Borough Police Department handled 214 calls for service during July, Chief of Police James Sabath reported recently.
During the month, officers issued 57 traffic violations after using funding from an aggressive driving grant to step up patrols.

A 34-year-old Newtown man was arrested following a disturbance at a bar where he refused to leave the premises, Sabath said.
In a separate incident, a 36-year-old Philadelphia woman was arrested for assaulting a man inside a bar, the chief reported.
Additionally, the department conducted several fraud investigations throughout July. In one case, a 49-year-old Newtown Borough man transferred Bitcoin overseas after a scammer falsely claimed there was an active warrant for his arrest. Police confirmed no warrant existed.

In another reported scam, a resident was nearly deceived into sending money to a company that falsely offered to wrap their vehicle, Sabath said.
