Superintendent Calls High School Vandalism ‘Unacceptable’

CRlogo council rock school districtCouncil Rock School District officials say the vandalism that occurred at their two high school are no laughing matter.

District officials earlier this week arrived to find vandalism to Council Rock High School South in Northampton and Council Rock High School North in Newtown Township.

At North, staff arrived to work Tuesday morning to find “obscene drawings and words spray painted on the rock outside the main entrance.” In addition, toilet paper was discovered hanging from several trees, officials said.

It was a similar story at South, where “two parking signs have been vandalized with obscene drawings and toilet paper has also been found hanging from trees, and even worse is that what appears to be a swastika was spray painted on a grassy area,” officials said.

Northampton police were contacted to investigate the incident at South. The district, according to Superintendent Dr. Robert Fraser, is conducting its own probe.

In an email to parents, Fraser said he hoped the vandalism would cease.

“These actions are simply unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Anyone caught committing these acts will be reported to the police. Additionally, if these individuals are students of ours, they will be disciplined in accordance with our student handbooks and School Board policies, which can include restitution for damage committed,” he wrote.

“We are better than this and I regret needing to write this message, and I do want to emphasize that these actions are likely the responsibility of a very small number of individuals whose actions should not damage the reputation of the larger group,” Fraser said.

The district has stepped up patrols at their high schools for the remainder of the week.
