Just a few yards from where Democratic nominee for president Hillary Clinton delivered a her acceptance speech, Pennsylvania delegates reacted Thursday night to the words from the candidate.
“I just hope that she keeps her promises if she is elected,” delegate Anna Payne of Middletown said. Payne, who supported Bernie Sanders in the primary, expressed hope that Democrats can take seats in the House of Representatives and Senate as well to force needed change.
Kathy Brookvar, a Clinton delegate from Doylestown, had praise for Clinton’s speech before thousands of people gathered inside the Wells Fargo Center for the Democratic National Convention.
“It was outstanding. Just, the privilege of being in this room is incredible,” she said. “I’m excited. I think the crowd is excited,” she continued. “The energy in this room is going to be a force to be reckoned with.”
“It was a very positive speech and I think she’ll accomplish what she is saying,” said Dave Buchewiz, a delegate from Allegheny County.
Katherine Snyder, a Sander’s delegate from Philadelphia who was brought to tears Monday when Sanders spoke of supporting Clinton, said despite the former secretary of state’s speech, she wasn’t likely to vote for her.
“No,” she said as she shook her head.
With Pennsylvania being a key state the Democrats hope to win this November, many delegates said throughout the week that they were unifying behind Hillary Clinton.
Payne acknowledged that it will take teamwork from all Democrats to elect Clinton.
