Residents are encouraged to join a town hall conversation on opioid addiction hosted by Pennsylvania Senate Republicans via phone Tuesday.
The town hall will take place via phone at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. If you’re interested in taking part, register ahead of time at acommonwealthcrisis.com.
Sen. Gene Yaw, a Lycoming County Republican who is leading the town hall, said thousands of residents have taken part in previous conversations that state lawmakers have held.
Tuesday’s discussion will focus on “drug availability, address treatment and promote drug education.” He added that suggestions from the public will be taken.
Yaw will be joined on the call by state Physician General Dr. Rachel Levine, Delaware County District Attorney Jack Whelan, and Director of the Center for Rural Pennsylvania Barry Denk.
In Bucks County, more than 130 people died from drug-related overdoses in 2016. The number doesn’t include pending investigation, and was an increase over 2015’s 89 drug-related overdose deaths, officials have said.
