Leading with a cheer Tuesday night, Democrat Helen Tai celebrated her victory over Republican Wendi Thomas in the special election to fill the 178th Legislative District.
“This is a small part of a much bigger thing – this big blue wave,” Tai told supporters.
Tai, a Solebury supervisor, will hold former Republican State Rep. Scott Petri’s seat until the term expires at the end of the year.
Tai received an endorsement from former Vice President Joe Biden leading up to the special election. On Monday, Gov. Tom Wolf made a campaign stop for Tai.
In November, Thomas, a former Council Rock School Board member, and Tai will face off again in the general election.
Petri resigned last year to take over leadership of the Philadelphia Parking Authority.
The 178th Legislative District is made up of New Hope, Northampton, Solebury, Upper Makefield and Wrightstown.
