Newtown Township police are seeking information after an attempted theft of a vehicle that was captured in surveillance images.
On Wednesday, police received a report of an attempted motor vehicle theft in the 200 block of Leedom Way, located in the Newtown Crossing/Liberty Square Development.
According to a statement from the police department, a residential security camera captured footage of five young adult males dressed in all dark clothing, dark coats, and face masks with their hoods pulled up.
The suspects were seen entering several unlocked vehicles before attempting to steal a Hyundai Tucson, which they were ultimately unsuccessful in doing so.
The police department is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the suspects. Tips can be submitted via CrimeWatch.
As a reminder, the police department is urging residents to lock their vehicle doors to prevent theft and other related crimes.
In recent months, a method made popular on TikTok and other social media platforms showed an easy way to steal Hyundai and Kia vehicles. The Korean automakers have been called on by authorities to do more to stop the thefts, including by adding anti-theft software and devices.
