A driver will be charged after a DUI crash that happened Friday evening in Upper Makefield Township, police said.

A driver lost control of their vehicle and crashed into a retention basin around 5:30 p.m..

Police said the driver was attempting to make their way home after consuming alcohol.

The vehicle went airborne before landing in the retention basin along Washington Crossing Road (Route 532) near the Traditions development, police said.

The crash resulted in injuries to both the driver and the passenger, police said.

The driver and passenger needed to be taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center in Middletown Township by the Newtown Ambulance Squad, police said.

“We cannot stress this enough,” stated police. “With the abundance of ride-share services available today, there is truly no excuse for risking lives by getting behind the wheel after consuming alcohol. The life you save may just be your own.”
