A driver narrowly escaped serious injury after their SUV crashed into a utility pole, causing a fiery blaze on Saturday, according to authorities.

The incident happened around 4:50 p.m. on the 800 block of Penns Park Road. Initial reports stated a car collided with a PECO utility pole, bringing down power lines.

Lingohocken Fire Company officials said they arrived at the scene to find the SUV fully engulfed in flames and resting on its side, fire company officials said.

A passing motorist pulled the driver from the burning vehicle before emergency personnel arrived, fire officials said.

The driver was then treated on the scene by medics from the Central Bucks Emergency Medical Services.

The fire department, including Engine 35, Engine 95, and Tanker 35, stood by while PECO officials arrived to turn off the live power lines.

After PECO wrapped up, the fire crews extinguished the flames, officials said.

Newtown Township police worked with members of the Lingohocken Fire Company and medics to handle the accident.

The sole occupant of the vehicle was treated by medics and escaped serious injury.

Penns Park Road was temporarily closed between Second Street Pike (Route 232) and Cedar Lane while the area was cleared. The road was closed for several hours on Saturday and again on Sunday for repairs.
