Police Log: Person Resists Arrest, $1,225 Retail Theft & More

July 28

Retail Theft

Police were dispatched to McCaffrey’s Food Market at approximately 4:30 p.m. for the report of a retail theft. The theft occurred on Wednesday, July 26th, and the total value of loss was approximately $1,225. The investigation is ongoing at this time.

August 4

Arrest

At approximately 6 p.m., police were dispatched to a Newtown Township residence for the report of an unwanted subject. As a result of the investigation, the subject was taken into custody on an active arrest warrant out of the Bucks County Sheriff’s Department and transferred into their custody without incident.

August 6

DUI

At approximately 1:15 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop on a BMW SUV operator for committing a vehicle code violation in the area of the Newtown Bypass and Campus Drive. Upon contact with the operator, the officer detected the odor of alcohol. The operator was unable to perform field sobriety tests satisfactorily and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Charges are pending blood evidence results.

Assault

While on routine patrol at approximately 9:50 p.m., an officer observed a suspicious subject walking towards the rear of a closed business located on Swamp Road. As a result of the investigation, one subject was charged with assault, resisting arrest, evading detention on foot, and loitering and prowling at night.

August 8

Identity Theft

A Newtown Township resident contacted police around 1:15 p.m. to report a fraud involving identity theft. The resident explained that someone hacked her Instagram account months ago and then recently someone contacted her place of employment and tried to change her payroll information. Her boss recognized it as fraudulent, blocked the sender, and deleted the email. The resident did not suffer a monetary loss but was concerned that her identity and personal information were compromised. Police advised the resident to contact her bank and the credit bureaus to monitor her accounts.

August 9

Identity Theft

A Newtown Township resident contacted police around 3:45 p.m. to report a fraud involving identity theft. The resident explained that he has an account with the PA Lottery website and was notified of another account that someone made with all of his personal information. The account was closed, and the resident did not suffer a monetary loss. Police advised the resident to contact his bank and the credit bureaus to monitor his accounts.

Identity Theft

At approximately 4 p.m. a Newtown Township resident contacted police to report a fraud involving identity theft. The resident explained that he was notified of an unemployment claim that was opened in his name and of an attempt by someone to open a credit card account in his name as well. The accounts were closed, and the resident did not suffer a monetary loss. Police advised the resident to contact his bank and the credit bureaus to continue to monitor his accounts.

August 10

Fraud

A Newtown Township business contacted police around 3:45 p.m. to report a fraud involving unauthorized checks. The attempts were flagged, and the business did not suffer a monetary loss. A police report was created to document the incident, and police advised the business to contact the credit bureaus to continue to monitor their accounts.

DUI Crash

Police were dispatched to the intersection of Durham Road and Fox Hill Drive around 5:30 p.m. for the report of a single-vehicle crash into a tree. Upon contact with the operator, the officer detected the odor of alcohol. The operator was unable to perform field sobriety tests satisfactorily and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Charges are pending blood evidence results.
